good selection of pieces, shame about the thin paper
This is a useful collection of grade 8 pieces, and the performance notes at the beginning of the book are a nice touch. Unfortunately, the production quality leaves much to be desired. The paper is thin, crumbly and yellowy-gray, too easily torn just by turning the pages. Very shoddy for £30, already in tatters long before my son will be ready to take the exam. And I must say, while it is lovely to see such a broad range of woke choices on the syllabus, with many unheard-of female and/or non-white/non-European composers on offer, I am sorely disappointed by the omission of Bach from this volume. Who on earth doesn't need Bach? Out of 21 pieces, nothing by Bach, no Mozart, no Beethoven, no Schumann, seriously? I am all in favour of expanding and updating the standard repertoire at this level, but it would have been great to need only buy one book for everything.
