I frequently watch TV in the family room and it is usually quite dark in there, by design. Unfortunately, I can't easily read the analog clock and at night, I have no idea what the time is. Some nights, I stay up watching TV way too late not knowing the time and so I wanted an easy to read clock that did not require an AC connection as running wires and extension cords to power the clock would look dreadful. So I was looking for an LED clock with numbers that are large enough to read anywhere in the room that was powered by batteries. I soon discovered that battery powered LED display clocks are not easy to find especially a clock with a 1.8" display.The 1.8" clock is powered by two "D" cell batteries and the instructions for setting the time were easy to follow. It took less than a minute to insert the batteries and set the time. The clock is programmed to dim the display at night and during the daylight hours, there are three brightness settings you can choose. At night, it seems to default to lowest setting. I have included two pictures of the clock on the shelf over my fireplace in my nearly pitch black room from about 20' away (I measured) so you can see how easy it is to see the time, even from that distance. One picture is zoomed in from that distance as my phone has a wide angle lens making it look farther away than it really is.Finally, I placed two small, self-adhesive rubber pads on the flat bottom of the back end of the clock to tilt the display straight up which helped with reflections during the day. I am very pleased with this clock and can read it from anywhere in the room, even over 30' away, night or day, it's very legible. I did not think I would be this pleased with a simple LED clock, I figured it would have some obvious flaws, be difficult to read, too dim, too bright - it isn't. I only had it a few days so I can't tell you how long the batteries will last or how durable it will be over the long haul but that said, it does have a one year guarantee, so it it fails in that time frame I will update my review. I am not using it as an alarm clock, so I can't comment on it's effectiveness in that department.So, if you're looking for an easy to read, battery operated LED clock to place on a shelf, for the price, it's well worth it.UPDATE - Nearly 4 years later: It's still working perfectly, keeping great time. The batteries last more than a year and I have come to rely on it.

Now I can see the time in a dark room when I'm watching TV. The brightness is perfect, not too bright to be distracting and it has a modern look. I love that the numbers are white and not an obnoxious bright green or red color. very simple and good!

Big, clear and bright numbers, which shine through the dark, but do not keep you awake. Easy to set up. Very accurate, even though it is battery operated. The plug-in clock we used to use started working again, but now my wife speaks of getting rid of it, as this simple battery operated clock is better.

Big clear numbers. Set up easily. Three brightnesses, but even the dimmest mode is pretty darn bright. AM PM indicator. Single alarm, but wonky way of setting and turning it off on the bottom that I’m not crazy about. Two D batteries not included, so use your own and they’re a turd to remove (no pull cloth, so get ready to use a butter knife). Battery door cover easy in and off. Like the size and feel of it. I’ll uodate review if it poops the bed 🛏 like some other reviews state. Made in China.

Bad product ! You can barely see the numbers. The product description is totally misleading. Don't waste your time and money with this product. I'm surprised as to how Amazon is selling this product...

Perfect size. Easy to set time and numbers are just the right size to easily read. You won't be disappointed.

It is very difficult to remove the batteries for replacement. The display is fairly big; however, not that sharp due to plexiglass faceplate.

Compact but good enough for what its supposed to do - a digital clock. Did try the alarm settings as its meant to be placed high up so unless it has a remote controller it will remain unused but i did not buy it for that. Display was not as bright as my previous purchase but that earlier purchase was really a blood(battery) sucker. Used 4 AAAs and it drained really fast in less than a week. This one uses 2 D sized batteries. Do not know yet how long it will last but based on earlier reviews it can last for quite a while. Will try to post an update perhaps a month later to gauge the battery life. The display is good enough to see in day and night time even in the lowest setting.
