Why the jump in price? These were $25 (sometimes $20) with samsung.
What is the max temperature it can withstand?
Do you need a hub for this to work or can I connect it to my echo or smart things on my phone
Are these sensors waterproof ? Can they be installed outside on a gate ?

These are amazing.

My first purchase of this device was for a dishwasher, with the intention of using both the humidity/temperature and the door sensors to determine if my "dumb" dishwasher had finished it's cycle. While the humidity/temperature didn't work as I hoped (neither changed noticeably during the cycle), the door sensor worked phenomenally, even though it wasn't perfect lined up.I've been adding door/window sensors around my house, and have gone through several other sensors at my front door, where there is an uneven gap between the door and the paneling around it. Another brand sort of worked - it had to sit sideways, and then it didn't have a good enough point to stick, so it fell off frequently (triggering false alarms on my Home Assistant automations that the door was open). Enter this device. You can see by the photo that it is not only some distance apart, but also not on the same physical plane. Doesn't matter. As you can see by the second photo, it's STILL showing as closed. Not only that, it's not awkwardly protruding at the door (the other that sorta worked tipped into the doors path occasionally) and it just WORKS.If you need a door/window sensor that can stretch across gaps, THIS is the only device you want to choose.

Very easy to attach and pair

It paired flawlessly with Hubitat, though it's listed as a SmartThings brand device in Hubitat (Aeotec is the hardware manufacturer of all SmartThings brand devices). S2 (secure) mode and unsecure mode both worked, and status is reported quickly. It's on the front door which sees a lot of traffic, and the attery is barely worn downat all in the last month. The two halves don't need to be perfectly touching to detect closed state, which is helpful when your trim is slightly raised relative to the door itself.

Most reliable door sensor

I have been using the smart things hub for about 5 years and have slowly added more devices. I purchased this sensor when it was sold by Samsung, and have had a mostly positive experience with them. I use them as garage door sensors, door sensors and binfold door sensors. I like that they are flexible and also have a temperature sensor. Of the 10 or so I have, none have failed. I have had an issue here and there with connectivity, but doing a reset and re adding the sensor has always fixed it. Sometimes just replacing the battery does the trick.Battery life is ok. I replace the batteries about once every 6 months. They use cr2450 coin batteries which are easy to find on Amazon for a reasonable price. I have had good luck with the LiCB brand. The can be found for $7-8 for a 10 pack. Using this sensor for all my doors allows me to only have to buy the one battery type. Most other sensors use a different battery, some of which are significantly more expensive like cr2 batteries. These sensors are not perfect, but are the best I've used.

Works great and only sensor of its kind

Its a great sensor. Compatible with everything and has unique features.

Great sensor for automation

Great sensor for automation with SmartThings. You can use it to sense vibration, so when someone is knocking on the door you can be alerted. Easy to setup and use with Home Assistant and SmartThings. Battery life is not so good, after 3 months it is at 50% battery life.

Works every time, reliable

Aeotec bought the patents to the hardware Samsung Smart Things used to manufacture, and though they haven't improved the tech, they've kept it exactly the same - which is really all it needed. These were - and still are - the best in class for multipurpose contact sensors. Don't mess around with any of the cheaper ones; you'll just end up replacing them in a year anyway. Buy it, set it up, and start relying on it like you want to!

Be careful where you place it

It does what it is designed to do but be careful where you place it.I have 5 Multipurpose Sensor Door/Window Sensors throughout my house. Unfortunately, whenever we drive into or out of the garage, my garage window sensor picks up the vibration from our garage door open/close system. As a result, I have replaced the battery for this sensor numerous times this year; whereas, my other Multipurpose Sensor Door/Window sensors have not needed a new battery. It would be nice if the vibration sensor could be turned off but the application doesn't provide that capability. So I'll move this sensor out of the garage and over to another area with less vibrations; then I'll buy another sensor for the garage window that doesn't have a vibration feature.Otherwise, I'm a happy Aeotec/SmartThings user.

When they work, they're great.

Purchased six of these for my home automation needs. They all worked flawlessly...for a few months. Then one by one they started going quiet. I noticed the first one when my laundry room lights automation quit working. Turns out the door sensor had not reported anything for a couple of days, but the last reported battery percentage was 65%. I tried reconnecting the sensor but it would not connect. Bought a replacement, and it worked fine. Then a few weeks later another one did the same thing. Replaced it with a different brand sensor. Then I decided to dig into the rest of the sensors and found that two more had not reported for several days. All of them reporting good battery life at time of death. I love the idea of having several sensors in one, but it's useless if they won't stay connected. Sucks that I wasted $250 on these. Learn from my mistakes. Using the Aqara P2 matter sensors now. So far, so good with those.
