BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL DESIGN
HIGHLY RECOMMNDED. I bought 10 2" clamps on sale to replace the original set I had purchased probably 20 years ago. See photos.Comparing the two designs shows that the current clamps are very close to the original design, but with one KEY IMPROVEMENT: the swiveling jaws that adjust to the angles of the surfaces being clamped. The original jaws were rubbery plastic that fit on the ends to cushion the material being clamped and were held on by teeth molded into the clamp jaws. They had started to slip off over time, causing me to buy the new ones. The faces of the jaws are a bit soft to prevent marring materials and also have two grooves to better grip round objects. They swivel jaws seem to be strong enough for their purpose - time will tell.Gripping and compressing them by hand, camping pressure seems to be uniform from clamp-to-clamp and essentially equal to the old clamps I have. There have been some comments in other reviews that the clamps are hard for some to fully open which could be corrected by either weakening the spring (a bad idea) or by lengthening the handles (a good idea). I've never found it to be an issue.(DO NOT BUY SMOOTH-HANDLED SPRING CLAMPS! I have seen where other brands of plastic spring clamps like these have smooth handles instead of having the ribbing these have. The smooth handled clamps are a pain to use because your hand slips down as you grip them, so I never purchased any - avoid them! - BUY THESE!)I won't be throwing out my old clamps, but I'll be keeping them for misc. non-furniture jobs.

Fit for purpose
Works perfectly and is of consistent quality. I have bought a few of these over the years and they’re all the same, which is great.

Awesome Clamp!
I have several types of spring clamps and this 58300 takes the win in all categories1: Clamp strength: It's impressive! I have pretty strong hands and it's not easy to squeeze it open with one hand. As other reviewers have said, the further it's open, the less clamping pressure is applied. If I was clamping anything over 2" I'd probably just go with standard clamps. Bottom-line, if you clamp these to your finger tips it's very painful.2: Build material and quality: Top notch. I feel like these will last forever. They are plastic but there is no flex or twisting at all whatsoever. The spring is very heavy duty compared to other clamps and the rubberized gripping tips are the perfect material mixture for strength and grip.3: Size: I have Irwin Quick-Grips that came in part of a larger set and I thought that's what I was ordering with these. It turned out that they were quite a bit larger than the ones I already owned. That said, the squared off rubber grips can clamp the smallest edges with ease.If you're used to using the Auto-zone/Napa little tiny black clamps with the orange tips then you will be blown away by the power of these bad boys.

Fast, inexpensive, lightweight clamps
The gripping force is really strong. You might need two hands to comfortably open them

Requires a lot of strength to open
Used to attach combination storm windows to house. There was no sill to rest against, so used 2 clamps (one on each side of flashing) with 1x3 strapping to support window while attaching to house.Someone had complained about the strength needed to open-well, they are spring loaded. There are other types of clamps(ratcheting) that do not require this amount of force. This clamp worked well because I had less than 1 inch clearance with flashing. Yet, it was strong enough to hold the storm window. Also, It did not mark or bend the flashing.

These are good, consistent clamps
Spring clamps are all over the place. You can get a bundle of these in a mesh bag for under 10 bucks. Every big box and hardware store has spring clamps, most are cheap. The problem with these ultra-cheap clamps is the inconsistent quality; you may get a few good ones but just as many bad ones. The bad ones have weak springs and poor jaw alignment that make them all but useless. These Irwin clamps are more expensive but you get what you pay for here. I have a half-dozen of these and they're all consistent in gripping force (stronger than most) and build quality. They do have pivot tips that differ from the picture; they work just like most of the other resin clamps you'll find.If you have a nearby Harbor Freight they have surprising consistent spring clamps for cheap. They look like the other cheapies, but with better quality control (ironic to say that about a product from HF). Other than that option, I'm sold on these clamps.

clamps tight
The spring is very strong and takes some effort to squeeze. I am using them to clamp the corners of a patio table tarp for winter storage. If they make it through the winter with bitter cold and high winds without falling off I will update on that. So far very impressed with these clamps....
