Fun Variation--Not So Complicated, Really
I was almost talked out of buying this by another reviewer or two who claimed this game was too complicated.Bottom line: There IS a small learning curve for the new Plants Vs. Zombies games, but I was playing with my five-year old within 20 minutes. The instructions could have been slightly clearer, but one game or two will tell you everything you need to know. Assuming to you know the traditional Risk at all, the learning curve is significantly shortened. My son and I love this version of the game. It provides lots of creative options, and just the right blend of strategy and luck to form interesting, nail-biting matches. From the cute cards, green and gray sets of die, and many play options, I think this is a perfect gift or option to the player who appreciates both Plants Vs. Zombies and strategic board games like Risk.

A good Risk for PvZ fans
Our 7yr old loves it. We enjoy playing it with him. It's a fun spin on the standard monotonous, drawn out Risk. The skirmish side(board vs of app) adds a nice variation. The plants seem to have the advantage in most games, however. The risk board is quite cramped and it could definitely use a good insert for keeping the pieces organized in the box. Overall a good quality game.

I buy a game to play and have fun. As a Plant vs Zombies fan and a Risk player, I had my doubts about the playability. My doubts were unwarranted. This game is great fun. It does both Plants vs Zombies and Risk justice. Furthermore, the quality of the boxed set is very high. The box is sturdy, the game pieces are well cast and durable. The cards and cardboard pieces, (although not laminated) are of higher quality. The clincher that moved me to a five star review is the game board. Easy to fold up, great graphics, very nice printing. If you collect board games, you will want to buy a couple of these treasures.

Doesn't Quite Live Up to Expectations for Big Fans of the Series
We are big Plants vs. Zombies fans, as well as board game fans, and so naturally had to purchase this game. In theory, it sounds fantastic! But the game does not quite live up to the standards we had set for it.Pros:- Risk style game- Fun game pieces- 2 different ways to playCons:- Board is cheaply made - ours broke in half after 3 games :-(- Doesn't quite utilize the plants vs zombies theme as much as we would have hoped- gameplay can be confusing - seems like they made the rules in a couple of hours and didn't test them very much- 2 players onlyAll in all, a decent option for a game. I would not recommend this for kids, as it is too complex. If you are a diehard plants vs zombies fan and risk fan, you'll likely enjoy this. But if you are a casual fan of the series, or even board games, you likely won't replay this too much. We love playing board games of all types, and I am sad to say that this isn't the game we are always pulling out of the cabinet to play. It sits there most of the time. I wish it wasn't so, as I love the idea of it. The follow through just isn't there - seems like a game they rushed to get out the door.

My 8 year old loves it!
I've seen some reviews about what ages it is appropriate for so I thought I'd comment. My 8 year old loves board games like chess and risk. He is great with learning complicated, detailed games. My 9 year old quits after a few turns and it's beyond my 6 year old. However, we had a 6 year old friend over to play it who's very much like my 8 year old and he got it and enjoyed the game. So, honestly, I would say it depends on your child. If you child likes regular Risk, chess, backgammon and games like that, they'll love this game.

Not so much....
We love Risk in my house. We love Plants and Zombies. The combination in this game, just doesn't work. The rules are too complicated and too different from regular Risk -- and it is really just a two person game.We are a big board game playing family -- but this really wasn't fun.We played it a few times and it went on the shelf and we opt to play regular Risk.

Two Stars
Poor game mechanics and balance.

Solid 4 of 5
I like this game, it's a lot of fun to play with my 7 year old. I would have given it 5 stars, only I don't care for the dual sided quad-fold board they chose to use - call me old-school but it would have been better to have a standard bifold board like the original Risk game.
