Muller Barking Spade, (Spud) Log Peeler Heavier, 3.65 pound head 0593,16

I did a lot of looking at reviews on Barking Spuds available from Amazon from multiple sellers because this is the sort of item that is easy to make a poor quality knock off of, and the reviews reflected that... spuds from other providers arrived dull, painted, too short to use... without handles... a tale of woe. This particular item had no reviews at the time and I bought it based on high price, and German manufacture, both good quality indicators that pre-date start ratings and the internet by decades.This is a great barking spud. It arrived knife sharp, it is on a ~ 5 foot ash handle and counter-wieghted intelligently with a iron counter wieght on the other end of the handle. You can bark stadding full erect. It's still hard physical work, but a pleasure to do, with a quality tool like this. So glad I didn't compromise and buy the 50 dollar wanna-be spuds from knock off importers. A great tool !One small request. Please offer a snap on leather sheath for the blade. It arrives so sharp it deserves that and I'd spend another 20 bucks to have

This thing is great! I am amazed at how easily it stripped bark from the pines I am working on. I am looking forward to trying it on other varieties of tree.The only con is the blade is not protected. This is a heavy, well made tool, and I would have paid more for a nice cover for the blade. I will instead be commissioning the skills of a local leathersmith. Still worth the purchase, but the purchaser should be mindful of the long term storage, maintenance, and safety of the tool.

After months of heavy use, it’s like the day I got it. If you are looking for the highest quality of hand tool to peel a lot of logs, get this with confidence. Tough enough for the job.

It is the right size to peel bark. It is sharp and the cap on the handle is nice. Well made.

Using the spud to peel bark from trees that went through the Dixie Fire two years ago. The spud works just as I pictured it would. Comfortable to use with the long handle, good balance and weight. Blade has a slight angle to fit the roundness of the log. No bs this is a excellent barking spade.

Wow! We just received the debarking too and it's incredibly sturdy and well built!Haven't used it yet, but it's obvious that it will get the job done and last our lifetime with proper care. The ONLY thing at this point that I would provide the Wisemen Trading & Supply with constructive feedback on would be to start including a sturdy leather sheaf held together with rivets and a strap with a snap on it to cover the blade when it's not in use. For the price I don't think it's asking too much, and it would add the final professional touch to their high quality product. A cover like that is absolutely essential both to protect the tool itself, as well as to protect the user from getting hurt if the blade end contacts them by mistake. We will make on ourselves, but feel this should be included given the quality of the product in every other way. Really looking forward to putting this to work and hoping it will help us avoid having to sharpen the blades on our mill as often!
