Great clever fun

I'd never heard of this series (honestly) but having discovered the TV version of Constantine (better late than never) and then finding out it was canceled I bought this solely to get more of that unique bolshie magician so perfectly brought to life by Matt Ryan. I really didn't know what to expect and hey ...... surprise: this is great entertainment!Pure fantasy, of course, but you should expect that if you're a Constantine fan. And if you are, he's not just a walk-on guest player, several of the stories revolve quite strongly round him and the other characters are great fun too.No idea why they cancelled the Constantine series. Who knows what goes in in the heads of some of the TV suits. After all, they cancelled Firefly, and probably quite a few other niche shows that I've never had a chance to see. But at least someone had the sense to give John Constantine back his trenchcoat for some more magical adventures with the Legends. Cheers to them for that!

excellent

A pretty good series, never did catch all of them on TV so now I can watch all of them properly.

The most absurd season yet, mostly in the right way.

If you're even vaguely considering this then you must already know what you're in for with the Legends. Well, for season 4 simply turn everything up to 11. This season is really, really dumb, in fantastic ways. The absolutely ridiculous premises, dramatic tone shifts out of nowhere, monsters and world-ending threats defeated in the silliest of ways, convoluted plots just to excuse wearing comedy costumes or to set up one pun, fourth-wall breaking; it's all here yet again and in bigger helpings than ever before. At the same time this season also manages to fit in more character development and sincere heart than previous seasons. Several characters who didn't have much depth to them before get significant time in this season and in particular Ava and Zari get some much-needed fleshing out.A special mention has to go to all the wonderful bit-parts, cameos, and supporting characters, who are all great this season.Unfortunately they don't quite pull all of it off. Allegedly several parts—key plot points—were rewritten at the last minute, and it shows. The in-universe reason for having a previous actor return as a new character is terribly flimsy and never pays off as their new character ultimately doesn't contribute much beyond the occasional bit of weak sarcasm, and them looking exactly like a previous character is glossed over in minutes. One of the main antagonists gets a hurried redemption arc (even calling it an 'arc' is stretching it; it takes about one episode) simply because the crew liked the actor too much to keep them as a villain, essentially causing this season to have two villains, one with a rushed conclusion and the other with a rushed set-up. Given how varied Legends has been and the show's whole premise of time travel, it's not as much of a problem as it would be for other shows, but it's still a bit jarring. The character of John Constantine also suffers from inconsistent writing, especially when it comes to the action, as one moment he's so powerful he makes every other character seem completely irrelevant and the next minute he'll claim "whoops, sorry, magic has it's limits, squire" and contribute nothing. Again, not totally unusual for the Legends but the inconsistency is pushed to extremes this time. The biggest fault is with the last ten minutes or so of the season, which was allegedly another victim of a rushed re-write from its original concept. I won't spoil it but suffice to say it feels more like the ending of a random mid-season episode rather than the end of a whole season.Overall, I can't imagine anybody liking Legends for three seasons but then not enjoying this one. For the whole first half I could not believe how silly (again, in a good way) they were going while also getting in real character development, and if the entire season had stayed on that track I likely would say it was the best season of any of these CW DC shows. Unfortunately the decision to re-write a couple of critical plot points midway into production and the inconsistent writing of the newcomers means it falls just short of greatness. As far as technical quality goes, I found this streaming version on Amazon to be just a little grainier and darker than other seasons or the TV broadcast, but not so much that it particularly detracted, and audio is mixed a little better this time with dialogue and sound effects not getting lost in backing music like in the previous three seasons.

Legends

Each season I say I’m not goi g to bother with the legends anymore, but each season they suck me back in. This was one of if not the best season so far. I like that they are rejects and damn well know it

Best show on TV right now

The superhero show that doesn't take itself too seriously. Funny and cheesy (but in the right amount) full of pop culture and movie references. Not the best season out of the 5 so far, but a recommended watch all the way!

Goes from strength to strength

This excellent series just gets better and better. The characters become more defined and the adventures a great mix of humour and thrill. My one minor complaint is the crossovers episode : I like neither Arrow nor Flash and don't watch them !!!!!!!
