Q: How fast does it read?

Once you have started monitoring, it reads as fast as the Arduino can refresh. (9600 bits per second) You do have to be pretty close to the reader though. Probably within about 1/2 inch.

Q: How quick does it take to read and process the info at that distance?

It processes almost instantly (refresh is 9600 bits per second), but your rfid tag has to be pretty close to the board. Like less that 1/2 inch.
