Mediocre but still cool.
Maybe the worst of the franchise but still worth viewing.

V/H/S: VIRAL
A decent third installment in the long-running horror anthology franchise!! Compared to the first two films, this one wasn't too great, but that doesn't mean it didn't have anything good to offer! Some of the short films in this one such as "Parallel Monsters" and "Bonestorm" were really cool and enjoyable! The "Magician" segment near the beginning of the film was good in terms of special effects, but the segment itself was just boring, withdrawing, and I didn't really see how it was considered "horror" besides the guy using his powers to kill people. Overall, V/H/S: VIRAL (a.k.a V/H/S/3) is a pretty decent sequel to two super amazing, super fun-filled and gore-filled found footage horror films. Super happy to own this one on DVD and have it be a part of my horror collection and V/H/S movie collection. I recommend this item for any hardcore horror fan or V/H/S movie fan!! The disc has some special features worth checking out too! If you can find this disc for a cheap price, go ahead and get it and check it out! If you enjoyed V/H/S 1 and 2, then you'll most likely get a kick out of this one too!

Unquestionably the best of the series
This is the third interation of the V/H/S series, which has been widely panned by those who write reviews of this type of thing. Whenever I see a film that far exceeds my own expectations, I feel compelled to dispel whatever confusion seems to result in an unwarranted plethora of negative reactions and reviews. The 'Viral' entry is indeed a stand alone barrage, if not an outright assault, of sound and pictorial images, all of which combine to create a nail-biting, edge-of-your seat experience. The people behind this series seemed to have learned as they went along, with each entry, from first to third, being superior to the former one. For example, the special effects in Viral are equal to the best you'll find in all but the most highly budgeted blockbusters. The stories, or vignettes, are at one and the same time, well acted, fascinating, thought-provoking, and scary as hell. There's enough blood and gore to satisfy most horror-genre viewers, but more importantly, the action is both captivating and thrilling. As for the 'found footage' complaints about jerky camera movements, I had no problem following all of the segments, quickly becoming oblivious to them and ultimately enjoying how they lead us along, bridging the different story elements the same as other visuals do the same. Most noteworthy are the story vignettes themselves. Each one has a clear beginning, middle, and conclusion, the only unanswered question being the police chase of a mysterious ice-cream van, throughout the show. For those folks who have seen the first two movies, Viral is a must-have addition, which I almost missed based on the negative reviews. Trust me when I say that the film, whether you love it, or simply find it to be just okay, is worth your time and money that's well spent. As I said earlier, the high quality of this particular movie will not leave you disappointed, other than when you're sorry to see it end. Trust your own instincts that I appear to know what I'm talking about. Then do yourself a favor, buy this film and enjoy it; Viral is one of those rare treats we think of as 'guilty pleasures' or discovered treasures when we find them.

You’re missing out on a good one.
I’ve watched this movie several times and though I do get why some have a problem this movie because of the title VHS viral and the recording was done by cell phones and other more modern technology. But for me, I’m personally in it for the stories and really enjoyed the ride. Also, everytime I watch this I noticed something that I missed from the previous viewing and it’s that attention to the little details, the good effects, the make up and my little be of anthologies that make me be a bit more forgiving of some of the faults. I’m not a critic in training nor claim to be. I’m just a fan of guilty pleasure cinema and don’t mind shutting off for a few and enjoy this for what it is, a good old fashion Weekend special of a movie, worthy of a drive-in if they still existed. Gave it 5 stars to offset the low rating that in my opinion, don’t think it deserves.
