Q: Is the mains lead a standard “kettle” plug that connects to the unit? My mains socket is about 5m away so would rather buy a longer lead.

No it us not a standard kettle plug. It comes with its own mains lead. Mine is not exposed at all. It is fitted into a socket underneath the cabinet where the plinth is

Q: How easy is this to install?

It was relativly easy but we were installing a new kitchen so the electrician and fitter had it in their plans

Q: can you use without a hose? I would like to brush towards it and the dust/dog hair is vacuumed away; would that work?

Yes. Theres a button by the side. Hit it with your foot/broom and brush stuff towards it. The auctions quite powerful and sucks in fri quite a range. It’s on a timer so it switches off itself.
