An absolute GEM with 2 internal features that are common individually but a rare gift in combination
A wonderful palette that’s not only affordable and well constructed but is available in numerous external colors and internal configurations (I purchased the pink palette with fixed slots to accommodate 36 half pans.)While the construction and cost clearly place Atworth’s Travel Watercolor Case in the upper echelon of all commercially available palettes there’s a couple of features that, in my opinion, place the Atworth head and shoulders above its competition:(1) The 36 half pan slots create a large central area that can be used for a myriad of possibilities: brush storage, collapsible water containers, additional half or large pan paints, tissue/cloth/sponge storage, etc.(2) SEVEN similarly sized mixing areas that are well partitioned to avoid accidental color mixing and when opened they remain perfectly horizontal thus avoiding the possibility of paint pooling and spillage. As I mentioned in the title, generous storage and an adequate number of large, equally sized, well-partitioned mixing areas are not uncommon individually, but almost impossible to find in combination. Fortunately the Atworth has EVERYTHING in an affordable, well constructed package. Do yourself a favor and grab yourself one in the configuration that vest suits your needs before word gets around and Atworth’s supply won’t be able to keep up with what I guarantee will be a ludicrous demand!!!FYI: For those of you who get frustrated with the hydrophobic pooling of watered paint on plastic, try lightly scrubbing the plastic’s surface with the rough GREEN side of a run-of-the-mill kitchen sponge.

Plastic and Removable Half Pans
So if you spent hours looking at palettes, then you aint the only one. I'm an intermediate watercolorist, and I like plastic palettes, but I'm not a huge fan of the wells that wouldn't allow you tuck away some half pans. So, after much debate and searching, I saw this one. I like the fold out trays, and the fact that you can remove the pans. It's also quite a nice size if you have a good amount of paints. It doesn't close very well, like it won't stay shut, so a rubber band or a hair tie is needed, but if you don't intend to travel with it and keep it in your desk or something, then this pallets is perfect!

Very nice paint palette
I used this for my gouache paint. I added extra pans by using glue dots. I don't have problems with mine staying closed. The pans are a nice size. I used the pans to be able to rearrange the colors or when I no longer have the color I can pull out the pan and clean it to put a different color in the pan. The pans fit firm into the sections and are easy to move around. I will not be using the dish that came with it. If I travel I use a water brush and at home I use cups for water dish. I love the way it folds and I don't have to worry about loosing a palette since they are attached. Will definally buy another one.

Excellent watercolor palette
This palette is fantastic! It even comes with empty half pans which I ended up using for another pallet and pouring my paints directly onto the built in pans since they're sealed off from one another. Tons of mixing space and even room in the center for a small paint brush, sketching pencil and a pen. Very happy with my purchase.P.s. you can also put double sided tape or sticky tabs in the open area in the middle and put the empty half pans there to add even more color options to your palette.

Not quality construction
I purchased this palette for travel. I liked the idea that I could change out half pans of watercolor I have and that it was much lighter than my metal palette. I also liked that it gave more mixing space. But it won't stay closed. It doesn't catch at all when you try to close it. The pans also don't stay where you place them. You could remedy that with some museum wax, but I don't want the wax on the bottom of my half pans. I do not recommend this product.

Does not close tightly!
I have yet to use this so I can’t give an accurate review on its sturdiness/longevity. My biggest problem with this is that the description says it closes tightly. I just received my replacement for the first one that didn’t latch at all and my second does not latch at all either. Thankfully I have plenty of hair ties should I travel with it. I guess I’ll keep it for the cheap price since o do like the other features. I posted the question and many have ones that do close tightly so perhaps the new batches being manufactured do not. Seller should change the description if that is the case. Also, I chose the pink. It’s a much brighter, darker pink than the pastel color in the seller’s photo.

Nice size for a portable palette!
This palette has several larger wells for color mixing and more paint wells than I have ever seen in a pleine aire system! I gave it 4 stars for traveling only because it came with little plastic inserts which fit into the paint wells and would either be useful to keep the original wells clean or could be used for twice as many colors one could take outside. But, they don’t fit tightly into the well and I could see opening this and dropping paint everywhere...

Decent Product Minus Potential Drops
I love that I can create a custom pallet of my favorite watercolor half pans. It's sleek and fits in an art bag pretty well. A big flaw for me is that it does not stay closed on its own and I really wish it did, especially after 36 paints popped out after it slid off the table. A hair tie around the outside is enough to keep that from happening in an art bag or wherever. The ceramic tray is a nice addition and as a whole, this is a decent product.
