Waste of money.

Bought this for my son's birthday in September 2018.Opened it on his birthday in October 2018.Didn't print a single thing correctly.Followed every troubleshooting guide, made every adjustment, used M3D filament purchased from their site.Wouldn't even print the model they provide with the software as a demo.Customer "service" is useless and simply directed me to ways to possibly replace this or tune that (it's brand new). Finally requested to return the worthless unit only to be told I wasn't eligible because it had been greater that 30 days. Yeah, except I hadn't even downloaded their software or registered on their site until October 20th and have been trying to get it working or returned this entire time.Junk product.Junk warranty.Junk customer service.

If you're looking for a first or portable printer -> Get this one.

Pros: * Friendly software * Aesthetically pleasing & Compact * Auto leveling * Large ecosystem of proprietary materials and parts * Also accepts 3rd party materials * Good customer service and support * Removable print bed <- you really don't know how important this is until you have a printer with one * Easy & good prints right out of the boxCons: * No standalone operation * Lower max print speed * Internal filament bay has allot of resistance (recommend external filament loading) * This printer makes great prints - but it would be difficult to get mind-blowing prints from it.Summary: This printer will make great prints right out of the box with minimal learning curve making this a great introductory printer. I've even purchased more of these units over the years for teaching, display, and portable units. I even keep one on my desk at work allowing me to keep prints going during the day.If I could change one thing on this printer I would like to see it have standalone operation via SD card. While this might not be in-line with the apparent design to use the software to improve the printing experience, it would improve it's already great portability by not requiring a tablet or computer to run.Compared to the MonoPrice Select Mini: * The Micro costs a little bit more than the Mini. * The Mini does not have auto bed leveling. * The Micro does not have a heated bed. * The Mini does not have it's own software: This means you need to know about and configure filament settings, retraction settings, print speeds, travel speeds, etc. * While the Micro -does- have it's own software and ecosystem it offers a little less ability to tinker / fine-tune settings. * The Micro prints almost out of the box without manual configuration and adjustments. * The Mini has offline printing available via SD card. * MonoPrice is unable to offer the same level of support as M3D * The Mini is a rebranded clone and MonoPrice has little control over its design or making fixes. To summarize: the Micro will require less configuration and fine tuning to work, but has less fine-tuning available. Owners of the Mini are better off if they are already familiar with base-model 3d printers and/or like to spend more time tweaking settings for specific outcomes on their prints.. The Micro gives you a printer at a base-model price, but a more streamlined experience. Also note that while the Micro does not come with a heated plate you can purchase one as an addon for your printer.A note on "offline printing": I've brought up "offline printing" as a significant issue because in my experience having offline printing can lead to less failed prints. Without offline printing you require a computer to control the printer instead of the printer being able to control itself. This adds an additional "point of failure" to your system. If your computer crashes, software crashes, OS decides it needs to restart for an update, or any number of similar issues occurs during a print then you have to start over.M3D is working on a print recovery update that is expected to help solve this issue.

Company will not honor its warranties.

Buyer Beware. M3D just sent me a letter refusing to honor warranties on their Micro and Pro units which I had purchased. I was told that I'm welcome to purchase parts from them to fix my own machine, instead, despite having one month left on my original 1 year warranty on the Pro and an additional year left on the EXTENDED warranty I purchased for the Micro.I would avoid this company, as it seems to intentionally sell products which it refuses to stand behind.

Bad support worse warranty

This is in regards to the m3d printer and upgrade kit.I received my upgrade kit in March and was very excited to upgrade my printer. I installed the kit per the instructions which were mostly adequate and proceeded to print my first object since the upgrade. I went to print a small ball shaped object with m3d pla and the print stopped about 1/2 through the print and the printer was no responsive within the software. I performed all the new TS steps including new usb cable and using a second computer with no luck so I went online and contacted M3d. I received lots of email about their new products and about filament though no support response. I figured they were busy as they had new products. A few weeks later I realized I still had not received a response and submitted a second request for support. Fast forward to this week and I submitted a 4th request pledging for help. I received a response! I was then asked a short list of questions told I was out of warranty and that I'd need to purchase a new board!? They said I never contacted them and they would do nothing to help. This morning I was thinking about it and this was purchased in March which would then mean they only back their product for 90 or less! This is a warranty of a company which has no faith in their product. Skip this upgrade, sell your m3d and buy a printer with better support and warranty.

Cannot reccommend

Lots of problems with this printer. It is not consistent. The print head can suddenly wander off course and crash into the print bed or the front edge of the printer causing damage. The mother board is very sensitive and a power outage can kill it. The extruder motor is not particularly robust and I am trying to get it replaced. It has been a long exercise in frustration.
