I have thin, curly hair and aim to enhance my curls rather than straighten them. However, I do like to straighten my hair occasionally, and it always ends up frizzy when I do it at home. I must say, this product helps make my hair less frizzy and shinier when I use the straightener. I didn't read before ordering that this is primarily a thermo-active product, so it hardly makes sense to use it if you're not going to style your hair as instructed. I thought this would remove the frizz and leave my curls more defined, but instead, it removed both the frizz and the curls, making them flat and straight. This is probably not ideal for my hair goals, but it can be very beneficial for people looking to straighten their hair, control texture and reduce volume.

The term "Hair Botox" is just a trendy thing to say at the moment and is rapidly becoming a common term that's used for products that make your hair smooth.I've had frizzy hair for a while because I've spent years bleaching and colouring it so wanted to try out the Renew Hair Professional Smooth Hair Mask.It comes in a recyclable plastic tub with a paper instruction booklet attached to the lid with a sticker, if you're like me and lose small instruction booklets in a matter of seconds, don't worry because there are also instructions on the plastic tub.You need to shampoo your hair twice (or use a chelating/detox shampoo) to make sure you get rid of any previous product build up, apply the Renew Hair Professional Smooth Hair Mask to towel dried hair without getting it on your scalp and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes.There is a noticeable, slightly chemical scent to the product.After the 15 to 20 minutes have passed, rinse the mask out of your hair (I didn't use conditioner as the instructions don't mention conditioning your hair) then blow dry your hair.After blow drying the instructions say to straighten your hair, then divide it into sections and then straighten very small parts of each section 4 times.I felt a bit worried about how much heat I was applying due to needing a minimum of 5 passes with the straighteners so I did use a heat protection spray as my hair is already damaged and used my straighteners at a low heat setting.After all the straightening, my hair did feel extremely smooth and soft from the roots to the mid lengths but I did notice some very small frizzies at the end from the amount of straightening, I tamed them with a bit of hair oil and so far, the smoothness, softness and straightness of my hair has been great.When checking the ingredients, I did notice that the product contains Hydrolyzed Collagen - this ingredient will definitely help your hair stay smooth and feel nice but it does coat the hair strand rather than penetrating it so I'm assuming that's why the recommendation is to use salt free shampoo. I don't use any salt shampoos or shampoos with sulphates so I'd probably avoid those as well if you want the smoothing/straightening effect to last.Overall - the Renew Hair Professional Smooth Hair Mask definitely works to make your hair smooth, shiny and straight and there's enough product to last you for a good few applications but if you have damaged hair or chemically treated hair, I'd definitely recommend using a heat protection spray and to be cautious about how often you use the Mask.
