Great novel
The story started out slowly, but I gradually became quite invested in the main character's challenges. I liked the themes of independence and growth after tragedy, and I loved how pivotal a role the location (and orchard) played in the story. Absolutely worth reading.

Stunning debut novel
Totally enchanted by this novel, its sense of time and place, the vividly portrayed characters. I savoured it with one large sip of melancholy full-bodied wine. A feast for the senses.Australia is a long way from Colorado and the Gunnison River and its tributaries, but there are legendary rivers, man-made concrete dams covering once properous villages, pristine high country here too, also wars the local culture didn't invent but nevertheless played a part in.The book is a rich sampling of one woman's grasp of the truth, before she had the maturity to acknowledge it. The metaphor of the perfectly ripened peach.
