Freeplay - TUF solar and wind-up multiband radio, torch and mobile phone charger

Only had it out the box half an hour and love it already!2 minutes worth of winding (about 200 turns) and it gave a good solid 5 minutes of radio at full volume, which is plenty loud enough for a small radio. How long with a complete charge? I'll test it & update later.The sound is crystal clear and reception is excellent, especially considering the tiny antenna. Reception will of course be better or worse depending on your location and any nearby sources of interference. I picked up nearly all the local FM stations with excellent definition.The torch is just a torch. Not particularly bright but enough to see by in an emergency. Unlike other wind-up torches I own, this one doesn't get brighter when winding, suggesting a lot of thought went into designing the circuitry.Charging jack, headphones, phone charger... I'll test these & update later.Quality-wise I'm very impressed. The rubberised shell feels like it'd give good impact protection against falls & knocks. For the price this feels like a very well made piece of kit. The winder feels substantial & like it'll last a long time, as does the unit as a whole.Size is diminutive. It'd easily fit in a coat pocket or small bag pouch and isn't too heavy to merit carrying.In summary so far, I can find no fault with the unit. It's of excellent quality and it delivers what it says on the tin very well. On the whole I'm chuffed as nuts with it!

The Tuf solar wind up radio is a good bit of kit. Well constructed, robust, nice styling with good features. The specification didn't state the size which is 143 mm long and 60mm diameter. Just right for what I wanted. It charged via the usb very quickly and the charge indicator is very useful. The radio reception and sound quality is excellent for a radio of this size. I tend to play at full volume but that is good enough for my needs. A bit disappointing that the specification is a little ambiguous in relation to "emergency phone charging." It will only charge with cranking, not from the stored charge. But it does work, so useful in an emergency. Very useful that touching any button other than the power, which will obviously activates the radio, activates the backlight to show the time. Another minor disappointment is that it doesn't store favourite radio frequencies nor can be used as an alarm/clock radio. However, this wasn't in the specification. Just a missed opportunity. Lastly, the brightness of the 'ultra-bright LED light' is simply adequate but if it does shine for 30 minutes on one minute of winding and 20 hours on a full charge (untested as yet) as stated in the instructions then that is superb! In summary I will be packing the great bit of lightweight kit in my rucksack every time because of it's versatility.

An excellent product, well made and useful. I bought mine as a back up, (forever running out of batteries). Being small makes it easy to find room for when packing, and while its no stereo sound centre, the sound is more than good enough. The bright colour also makes it easy to find with my freeplay wind up torch. Assuming you found that in the dark, being black?

I chose this as i ticked all the right boxes. It provide a radio and a torcht. Importantly the TUF radio provides a 5V USB output port that delivers power from the alternator for recharging mobile phones and light personal electronics. This was a crucial requirement for meHowever the USB port seems to be an old size or non UK ??? so I cant recharge a modern mobile phone. Maybe I got old stock .

The radio was good and worked very well. The torch worked well as did the solar panel and phone charger (for emergancies) however I have had to return the TUF solar and wind up radio to Amazon as the wind up mechanism broke and we were unable to charge the radio. I had only used it a couple of times. Quite disappointed really. Thought about replacing it but it would probably happen again so will look around for another radio for camping.

At first delighted. However a bit disappointed after aerial broke - only purchased approx 2 months ago - (I'm not heavy handed) & doesn't appear to hold charge for very long after being plugged into mains. Nothing like as good as my previous freeplay radio.

best quality , gift for my son. he is thrilled with it and all its functions as he constantly cant afford electricity so this is perfect.

Product arrived within schedule well packaged, undamaged and as described. Small manpat and made from robust maerials and can take some punishment.
