Compact smoke alarm with some good features
Compact smoke alarm that has a few features I really like:1. It's smaller than your average smoke alarm so is less obvious when fitted and blends in a white ceiling very well2. It has a silence / test button (same large, round button you see on the photo)3. It has a flashing LED to let you know you've silenced it4. It has, allegedly, a 10 year non-replaceable battery, after which you should dispose of the unit (this applies to ALL smoke alarms BTW, who knew?)5. It only switches on when fitted correctly to the base plate, which came with plugs and screws, took 5 minutes to fitDownsides?Well, the 10-year battery life is just marketing blurb, until December 2024 for me, so I just hope it lasts that long (as the instructions state, triggering the alarm too often when you burn the toast will reduce that time). All in all a very nice unit that hopefully won't wake me up during the night with an insistent "bip" for many, many years.

10 years my ar*e!
Compact and simple to install, but the 10 year lifespan is ridiculously ambitious. The first one of these failed a little after a year, with constant false alarms, despite being hoovered regularly as recommended by the manufacturer. Purchased a replacement hoping it was a one-off dodgy unit, but no, the 2nd one has now failed, again a little over a year old. Do not buy this item expecting it to last 10 years - the battery might but the unit won't as you will have taken a hammer to it long before then to shut it up. Contrary to other reviews it is fairly simple to remove from the mounting plate, took all of 2 minutes.

Very neat little unit
Very compact unit, with a loud alarm. Easy to fit, I used adhesive tabs rather than screws. Has a life of 10 years. Highly recommended. This manufacturer also makes heat detectors of a very similar compact design. If you want want of those you will have to contact the manufacturer direct though. Very pleased, and my wife also approves.

I gave it two stars maybe should have been one ...
I gave it two stars maybe should have been one, reason= I bought the unit on 18 April 2014. It has add a few false alarms today, however, it was giving a warning incessantly. So the battery has lasted 3 years! I also had trouble getting it off the base plate. I had to manhandle it with some vigour! Once I got it off I noticed I put a little red arrow on the unit but what this is to denote I cannot remember.I may buy another as I can't be bothered to fit another base plate, but not sure. Our ceilings are high so all this fitting business is a bummer.

Won’t last 10 years
4 years into its 10 year life and has gone faulty. Seems common, judging by some of the other reviews. On the plus side, small compact device which looks ok. This one worked out at less than £3 per year, so I guess you could argue it’s good value?

Seems fine - if the scary warning in the instructions can be safely ignored. Is not a beauty.
Base plate is screwed onto the ceiling then the body of the alarm fits onto that - and in doing that a switch is switched to connect battery. There is a small bit of plastic to press to remove it from the base plate - difficult to see when it is fitted so consider noting its position before fitting and perhaps drawing a little arrow to facilitate removal in 2024 (or whenever it fails).A cloud of thick smoke has just billowed down my chimney and I was pleased to note that within 20 seconds or so the alarm went off - then was easily silenced by a poke with a stick (the whole lower surface of the alarm is the test/silence button). I am not so pleased however to read in the instructions that testing it with smoke must not be done as this WILL (not might) cause damage. I don't believe that but if I was of the jobsworth persuasion, I suppose I'd have taken it down and discarded it after less than one day of use.The Amazon listing describes this as "miniature". I don't see this on either the box or the instructions and wouldn't call it miniature. It is not as pleasing to the eye as a wider one which would look flatter and of more pleasing proportions (eg the Fireangel one). The diameter is aprox 83mm and the depth apx 37mm. Would look fine in a garage or boiler room but rather ugly in a sitting room.

I certainly would not recommend this product
Supposedly this smoke alarm has a battery life of 10 years. Well, after less than a year the one we have has gone wrong and has started bleeping randomly and going off for no reason. Yesterday it went off at least 20 times and there wasn't even a whiff of burning toast in the house. Once it is installed it is also extremely difficult to prise it off the ceiling again and I nearly ended up taking a hammer to the f***in thing!!! I certainly would not recommend this product. Amazons return policy means that you can't get a refund or replacement through them after this length of time and you have to contact the manufacturer directly, what a joke!
