Easy to fasten, very sturdy and more than worth the expense
I've purchased several of these over the years for my mothers and friends' parents and can't say enough nice things about them. The snap buckle is soooo nice and once it's fit to someone's waist goes on in seconds, without having to thread & tie every time through a manual buckle like basic gait belts. The handles are super heavy duty and have held when catching parents weighing up to 250# w/o ripping loose at all.If you're a caregiver for anyone - especially if you're doing it full time - these are more than worth the money. I like & trust them enough to keep an extra in my car for days when I'm with someone who has forgotten their own.

The NYOrtho waist gait belt is truly supportive in moving the elderly in home care
This sturdy waist belt has 6 loops to grab from any direction in moving a person in patient care, whether from the toilet, wheelchair, dining chair, bed, or any sit to stand position; it has a quick release in the front to take on or off, and is very thick quality material for supporting even the heaviest of person; this one is better than the other standard gait belt, I was using before with locking teeth; i don't leave it on the patient since it is easy on and easy off; i have not had to wash the belt yet, but it could hold up in the washer then air dry; i really like using this belt and the patients don't seem to mind having to wearing one, which saves my back.

Great for caregiver and client's safety!
I have used many kinds of gait belts over the years & I now insist that all of my clients have one. It is easy to adjust & clean and gives family members who are new to hands-on caregiving the confidence to aide their loved ones without hurting themselves or the person they are helping. Ty, ty, ty!

Easy to use
I used this to move my mom from her wheelchair to my car and back again. I liked how easy it was to snap on and the side handles were helpful. It did well for my mom who only weighs 130 pounds. It was small enough for her waist.

Cautions
The manufacturer does not give buckle dimensions nor how much weight the buckle/belt is tested to handle. The buckle, I consider on the small side, given the body weight it has to handle in a lift. One has to be extremely cautious using this belt (most belts with these plastic buckles have the same flaw)…if there is a slight angle of the buckle, it will cause the belt strap to loosen from the buckle and enable someone to fall or loose balance. Once you know this you can work with that flaw, but you must be cautious. The belt is not padded for comfort and does not have a gripping material to hold it in place, that some other belts do. Theses may or may not be considered features you need, depending how you need to use the belt with a patient. Everything else is made of durable material and appears sturdy.

Belt Failure Resulted in Fractures/Bruises
I bought this product 2 months ago to assist my wife to walk as she has balance problems. It was fine for the first few times but last week while turning a corner in our home, with me holding two hands on the loops, she lost her balance and started to fall to her right side. The belt suddenly pulled right through the buckle, and she fell hard on a ceramic tile floor hitting her head and right side resulting in an ambulance to the hospital. We are currently dealing with 4 fractured ribs and bruising on the right arm/shoulder and a large lump on her head all resulting from that fall. The belt holds strong (and appears to be safe) in the buckle unless it is twisted or tugged on an angle which is what happened in this case, and it pulled right through the loop. I'm not sure if it is a design flaw, but most buckle systems that I have seen similar to this have the end of the belt secured so it doesn't pull through. It might be okay assisting patients from in front of them, but not the back in my opinion.
