Irwin Record 07 Jointer Plane 2.3/8in Wooden Handle

Good solid plane for the price. The sole needed a bit of flattening and I added a Hoch iron. Shaves off walnut like curls of butter. Very happy.

Mine was like a banana concaved along the length and the width, I know there's lapping involved with a new plane but this was so far away from what it should have been for a plane of this price. After 4 hours of lapping and still not even close to flat I decided I was going to return the plane, but after reading Trade Hut's returns policy which basically says if they think the tool is fine they'll send it back to you at your expense (which the original return is also at your expense) so I would avoid this company in future. So back to lapping for a further 5 hours and £20 in sandpaper I got sole flat. I had to take so much off the sole I had to shorten the chip breaker by 2mm just to stop the blade protruding with the yolk fully closed. I've got other record planes and been happy with them and only needed minimal fettling to get them up to standard but I'm really not happy with the amount of metal I had to remove to get this working as it should. Also there was no laquer on the tote which I can live with but still for this price would expect better. The only good point is the blade was better than you normally receive out of the box and just needed honing.my advice would be to avoid this plane and maybe go for a vintage or even Faithfull for a third of the price with the amount of work required just to make the tool perform as it should.

Vino empaquetada en la misma caja del cepillo. Venia rota la caja. Aunque muy bien asegurada.Empapada en aceite. Los mangos son de madera pero se ven un poco falsunos.Necesita bastante ajuste. y afilado de la cuchilla.No es como los irwin record antiguos.Aun asi... si sabes ajustarla... hara su cometido.

Wahnsinniger Zustand, in dem der Hobel bei mir ankam. Eisen und Spanbrecher total unscharf und das Eisen auch etwas schief. Ich bin Hobby-Verwender und habe bestimmt eine Stunde mit Schärfen verbracht, bis der Hobel benutzbar wurde. Ansonsten sind Gewicht und Handhabung in Ordnung.

If you buy this expecting to use it out of the box, expect to be disapointed. The tool will not remove stock from wood on arrival. The blade on mine was dull and chipped, the chipbreaker was set about 5mm behind the blade and didnt contact the blade and so clogged as soon as you try to remove stock and becomes useless. I've had to spend about 2 hours getting the blade and chipbreaker in working condition and I'm yet to check how flat the sole is.Usually there is some tune up required when buying a plane I have never experienced a plane to be this poor upon arrival and I own a few and most of them are supposed to be poorer quality than this.
