The Comfort of Strangers

A holiday that turns into a nightmare
I loved this book, although it was quite short and I read it very quickly. The writing is brilliant and although it doesn't actually say it is set in Venice, the descriptions matched my images of that beautiful city. The relationship between the couple was described in wonderful detail and the plot really made me think it was all a bad dream. The type of dream where you want to wake up!

Page turner
I couldn't put this down. Really wanted to know what was going to happen, until I found out what happened!I found it difficult to identify with any of the characters in this story, but that did not seem to make it less engaging. At some points it was difficult to understand the motivations behind some of the decisions characters made though...

One of his best
I love Ian McEwan and this is another brilliant one of his. Short novella about a couple who go on holiday and meet another mysterious couple. Really enjoyable read. I found it intriguing and the writing was exceptional. Perhaps not for you if you're into his more plot driven texts

Disturbing
As a great admirer of Ian McEwan I was more than happy to buy this book and although his novels always stir the emotions and the mind, I did find this one particularly disturbing. I would recommend it for all but the faint-hearted.
