Wow, that's a good question. I've not tried it but it should not be a problem. It will not harm the clay beads or the fabric. It would probably dry the beads the out over time. So, you might not get that moist heat that you get with microwaving a pad that has been at room conditions. We would love to see you post how well it works!

It will absorb moisture from the room air and be ready to provide moist heat whenever you need it. If you generally use the pad as a cold compress, store it in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer. The plastic bag will prevent the absorption of food odors from the freezer.
