Q: Could I use this to put in a car shelter for stray cats to help them stay warm throughout the winter?

I used for feral/ stray cat houses in the winter. Worked very well and added straw.

Q: Is this a good option for metal casting?

Don't know. I strictly bought it to use as insulation in a pet house. Which was a good option for me

Q: Can this be used as floating letters in a pool?

Very cool idea ,except since the edges are fairly rough you will more than likely get a whole bunch of small broken off bits of foam floating in your pool,clogging your filter. You might try fine sanding the edges,and using waterproof paint to paint on the rectangles themselves leaving them more or less intact.

Q: Is this soft or more toward the hard side similar to styrofoam?

These are sheets of hard Styrofoam.
