Excellent!
I followed this author from her previous excellent work on Catherine the Great. The Caesar of Paris is an even more impressive follow-up on Napoleon and his relation to art and antiquity. The book is consummately researched and compellingly written, and provides both a broad introduction to Napoleon and the period for those unfamiliar with the subject as well as extraordinary depth for those who are. The book makes a fervent case that Napoleon’s artistic legacy is equal to his impact on law and military conquest, and that Paris would be just as unrecognizable today without Napoleon as it would be without Haussmann. It also provides deep insight into the man and how he viewed himself in the context of history. Would highly recommend to any art buffs, history lovers, fans of Parisian architecture, and people with Napoleon complexes. It was great to see the book get the recognition it deserves on Michael Dirda of the Washington Post’s best book list.

Great read!
I got this book for a college class that revolved around the French Revolution and Napoleon and, I gotta say this was soo helpful! It was so detailed, interesting and went in depth into why Napoleon decided to do what he did regarding his life and his decisions that changed France. This is one of those books that I will definitely be adding to my personal collection! If you want to know more on Napoleon, this is your book!
