Roy Ayers has been one of the best loved jazz funk artists over the past forty years. He was most prolific in the 70's and early 80's releasing up to three albums a year on the Polydor label, recording some of the most memorable jazz funk classics of that period. Roy played in Jack Wilsons band before joining Herbie Mann for four years recording his hit Memphis Underground. This led to Roy making three albums for the Atlantic Label in the late 60's. In 1970 Roy formed Roy Ayers Ubiquity and signed to Polydor Records, where he would record twenty one albums over the next twelve years. Roys Africa Center Of The World album was released in 1981 and reflected Roys experiences in Africa. It has a harder edge and is jazzier than most of his albums from this period. The River Niger is a beautiful mid tempo instrumental which conj ours up images of floating down the great river. Destination Motherland another vibes led instrumental, and Master Plan have more of a club groove, and the tougher version of The Third Eye which first appeared on his Everybody Loves The Sunshine album, and Land Of Fruit And Honey are also strong tracks.
