Awesome STEM SolarBots!
This SolarBot set was on sale, which spurred the purchase for my STEM-minded son. At six years old, they’re a little too intricate for my son - so I do the assembly. But he loves watching and helping assemble the different builds, and each one works well. Each bot has different mechanical movements - his favorite is the rolling Armadillo.A bright bulb will get the bots moving during overcast days; but natural sunlight certainly works best! For $15-20, these SolarBot sets are well worth it.

So Much Fun For Kids and Adults
The Thames & Kosmos SolarBots: 8-in-1 Solar Robot STEM Experiment Kit is one of the best STEM building sets I have purchased. Not only can kids (and adults) follow the easy to read and understand building instructions, but they can learn about how solar power works, so they have a better understanding. These are fun solarbots to build and watch as they work in the bright sunlight or under a higher wattage light bulb. The only negative thing I can say about this kit is that you can only build one solarbot at a time, and then it has to be deconstructed to build the next and the next. I would like a kit where ALL of the solarbots can be built at the same time, so disassembly isn't necessary. Excellent for kids and adults, or kids and adults working side-by-side.

Works well and fast
Built a bit alongside my 5 year old. Pieces were a bit difficult to break off. Be careful not to break the parts when removing. Bot went together well, instructions were easy to follow, bot went fast in the sun.

Great engineering present
Got this as a present for my son last Christmas and it is the only present that he still uses almost a year later. So many different options to build and can be built over and over

Solar bots
My grandson enjoyed building and playing with these bots.

A disappointment
Our grandson previously enjoyed The Robot Factory by the same maker, so we thought the SolarBots would be fun. We spent an entire afternoon trying to put the motor together without success. The parts are tiny, flimsy, and complicated. The instructions are unclear and the drawings are not to scale or color. It was extremely frustrating. We put it together and took it apart many times. We spent hours without any success. We never got past trying to get the motor, which is an integral part of the Bots, to work.

Doesn’t actually work
I bought for my grandsons. We put it together and it never did work. It says it’s solar powered ; we put in the sun and to this day hasn’t EVER worked. It was fun putting it together, I wouldn’t recommend to buy it, unless you want it to look cool on a desk or dresser.Just to admire

Too many pieces to punch out
This has sat in the box for a week because my son doesn't want to bother punching out the 100+ plastic pieces from the four mold frames and I don't blame him. They are very difficult and painful to punch out. It will probably take me an hour to punch them all out. Super annoying, would not have bought if I realized this. Can't yet report on how well the kit works. We'll see if we even get there.
