Great price - better than processed cereal - easy to cook in instant pot
No more cereal that is highly processed. Easy to make a batch (1 cup) in an instant pot for the week.1 cup oats, three cups water, 3 minutes of cook time = done

Amazon doesn’t deliver.
I love the product but I ordered it on April 11 and it was delivered on 18 April. I don’t understand how Amazon can promise 2 day delivery and then fail to deliver on time.

manufacturers packaging leaked a little bit of product.
The packaging leaked some of the steel cut oats into the box. They have those zip-seals integrated into the bag. Each bag also has a hole above that zip seal, for hanging on hooks in a store. The seals were not completely zipped on one of the bags in the box, and some of the oats leaked out through the hole. Some projects will have the two sides of these bag fused together along the top where the hanging-hole is, but that wasn’t the case in these bags. Was the first shipment this happened to for us, and wasn’t more than a quarter cup lost in the box. Would be nice if Amazon would pass this issue on to the manufacturer, though.

You can't boil it long enough to make it smooth like baby food
Boiling 20 minutes, 30 minutes, makes no difference, Steel Cut Oats will always result in little pellets mixed throughout. I haven't tried boiling for 2 hours yet. It explains why the glycemic index of steel cut is lower than instant or "regular" oats, because steel cut isn't ground up as finely. Lower glycemic index means less of a chance this will result in hypoglycemia a few hours after eating it. Options are the same as tea -- a teaspoon of honey, a glug of half & half, or I think mixing in a couple of slices of American cheese would be ok. Or, for healthfood junkies, neither. Organic promises toxin-free, a good way to start the day.The Latina esposa has a visceral reaction to hot cereal, but she likes oatmeal mixed into soup, like a secret ingredient. We'll have to try steel cut, next time.

Tastes sooo GOOD!
I was told about steel cut oats by a client that likes to diet, and he told me that yes it takes longer to cook than instant oatmeal, but it is worth it, boy he was right!Full disclosure, I CANNOT stand instant oatmeal, I would have to force myself to eat it. The texture, taste, and basically everything about it, turns my stomach. This product is a far cry from instant oatmeal! Firstly, it takes about 15 minutes to cook after the water and salt get to a boil. Ensure you get the water (and salt) in the pot first, then get to a boil. After you see the water about to boil, add the serving of your choice to the pot, cover and put to a low simmer. Stir occasionally, and my doneness timing comes to about 15 minutes, or when the oats begin to get sticky on the bottom of the pot. I prefer an al dente dish as it reminds me of a good risotto. You can cook longer for a creamier texture, but I have not done that as that is not the texture I am going for. Now, the instructions say to add a pinch of salt, my opinion, salt to taste and use trial and error. For me, a pinch is not enough for a two serving bowl, I go with a teaspoon as it gives it more flavor. I do not add much salt to the rest of my dishes during the day, so I can live with splurging a little bit.At the price point for this pack of 4 is about what our local grocery store charges, but I have noticed that the availability of this product at our store has been limited lately. This product comes sealed and should last for a while. If I had to give this product a con, is that for a weekday breakfast, it will take you about 20 minutes from start to finish (5 minutes to get the water boiling, 15 to cook). Also, if you do not soak your pot immediately after cooking, cleanup get get a little tricky. If you plan ahead and are on top of the cleanup, you can avoid all the cons listed.I would recommend all to give this product a try and make it part of your balanced diet!
