- 1 Rare Collectible Coin- 10 Old Israeli Shekel / Sheqalim (code: IS)
- Year of issue: 1982. Year of withdrawal: 1986.
- Composition: 75% copper and 25% tin. The coin weighs 8 grams, 26 mm in diameter, 2.2 mm thickness.
- Obverse: an image of antique galley, state emblem (menorah), "Israel" in Hebrew, Arabic and English.
- Reverse: denomination "10 Sheqalim" in Hebrew and English between two stars, date in Hebrew (please note: since we have more than one of these items in stock, actual coins issue date may vary from picture).
The Old Israeli Sheqel (also known as simply the Shekel, Hebrew: שקל) replaced the Israeli pound which was used until 24 February 1980. It was the currency of the State of Israel between 1980-1985 and was replaced by the Israeli New Shekel at a ratio of 1000:1 on 1 January 1986. The old Shekel was short-lived due to its hyperinflation. Presently, the old Shekel is no longer in circulation and is not regarded as legal tender by the Bank of Israel.
