Pitch Black [Blu-ray]

I love this movie

Vin Diesel's Riddick character begins with this film. My favorite of the series.

I am a fan of SciFi. This movie did not disappoint. The extended version just makes you want more.

Vin Diesel is great as the antagonist/hero. Radha Mitchell was convincing. Good cast. Great scary story of survival among survivors of a crashed space ship on an unknown planet haunted by carnivorous creatures on a planet that orbits into total darkness...for decades. This movie is the prequel to the Riddick movies, which, IMO, fails in comparison with this movie.

Pitch Black is a wonderful combination of science fiction, horror and drama all in one movie. This is the first time the Riddick character is seen in a movie. Vin Diesel was born to play this tough, vicious and strange anti-hero Riddick character. He is a prisoner on a space ship which crash lands on what first appears to be an uninhabited planet with two suns. After the crash landing, Riddick was no longer on the ship. After one of the bounty hunters was killed by an unknown thing, the group began hunting for Riddick, who they think killed the bounty hunter. This quickly changes when the group discovers the planet is not uninhabited and there vicious creatures who are sensitive to light, but come out in the dark. The planet also rotates so that it becomes "PITCH BLACK." This is when the horror begins for the group. Riddick winds up leading the group in the dark to someplace safe, but as you know, things never go as planned.This movie sets the stage for the sequel, "The Chronicles of Riddick" as well as the animated version, "Dark Fury" to come out. Since I am looking forward to the newest Riddick movie to come out in two weeks, I again watched Pitch Black, Dark Fury and The Chronicles of Riddick.In conclusion, if you have not seen Pitch Black yet you may want to check it out before seeing the newest Riddick movie due out soon. In fact, you may want to check out all three previous Riddick movies. I like all the Riddick movies thus far and look forward to seeing the newest one.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. This is the first time I saw Vin Diesel and I knew it certainly would not be the last. His character is perfect (like that incredible body and voice) and the special effects are primo. Diesel OWNS this picture, even though he is backed by an exceptional cast of characters. Whoever chose the virtual unknown for the part should have gotten a hefty bonus. He was absoulute perfection in a damn good movie. Definately a thumbs up.We have a space ship crash landing on a barren planet. Oddly enough, they just happen to land near the ONLY settlement which probably has the ONLY water on this blasted place. Plus, they manage to do it at a time when monsters are lurking about, which is a trick since it only happens once every twenty-two freakin' years!Aboard we have an odd assortment of characters (not to mention first-rate actors): Besides the usual expendibles, we have a captain who tries to kill everyone, a good guy who isn't, a bad guy whos the hero, and a little boy who's a girl. You still with me?Faults: If the beasties come out every twenty-two years and ravage the entire planet, where did the big animals come from whose skeletons we see? What the heck did animals that freakin' big drink? Or, even, where? There appear to be millions of the flying monsters -- what have they been eating UNDERGROUND for the last 22 years? How is it that they suddenly flew like bats after living in a hole all their lives? How come one expendible gets sucked in the hole from just sticking his head in, when the captain manages to climb in the thing and wander around, then get out with barely a scratch?Do these faults really matter? Only if you're a bit anal like myself. The acting and effects are so bloody good you forget about the problems and just get involved in the film.By the way, I loved the kid. He/she is perfect, much like Diesel. (I wish they'd taken the same actor and used her in the sequel, CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, instead of going for the "pretty face".) Also, the sudden appearance of an expendible (who is promptly mistaken for the escaped convict) was an unexpected kick.My movie ratings are as follows: 1) Just don't bother, 2)Borrow it if you MUST see the thing, 3) Rent it, 4) Pay to see it on the big screen, and 5)BUY IT ASAP. This one gets a 4 and a 5.The highest praise a movie can get is is kept my total attention throughout. This one did.

Middle Adult son chose the weekend filled with this and the trilogy. Enjoyed the difference in theatre cinema's quality and era.Loved ItNot old but Classic Bug/alien story with back stories and continuum

It’s the best upgrade you could ask for. colours , sound. I don’t right reviews for 4k but felt this warranted one. If you have 4k capability and was thinking of upgrading this film, get it.
