Awesome
Love em. Great rebound, nice and long. Light and fast. Great jazz sticks. Nice woody articulation on the ride cymbal.

I've found my perfect overall sticks
If you're wanting a little lighter stick that gets a great sound out of snare, toms, and ride then these are the ones. I had worried that the little wood tip might wear down faster than the larger tips I had been using on my previous ProMark 5A's but I was wrong. These tips last far longer then my previous ones ever did. They feel perfect while playing and I can do anything from rock to blues comfortably. These are my go to sticks for everything now.

Nicely balanced and strong
Nicely balanced and strong. I been using HD4s for 8 years and never had a complaint. I tried using SD4 but it only took 1 min into the session for it to break. I can always rely on HD4 to give me the bright tones on cymbals and be strong enough to withstand a worship service at church.

shtiks!
Currently my favorite stick. Before these I used SD4s and those are very good sticks which are the same style tip and length, however, these are a bit thinner yet seem a bit heavier because they are hickory instead of maple. The tip on the SD4s fade away/ lose shape after a couple solid weeks of playing where these do not.Im glad i tried these out and would highly recommend these or the SD4s to anyone.

The perfect jazz sticks
Thin and agile for jazz, but with substantial tip and weight to produce a good cymbal sound and a nice balance in my hands.

Will it break? Will it last two months? Who knows?
The feel and tone of these sticks are great, and I've used them consistently for years. They are my go-to. I'm incredibly frustrated with both the wide variance of quality and strength. I've been playing for a good 20 years now, and I've been using Vic Firth HD4's as an alternative to the Vater Fusion Nylon ball tip, because my current band plays a bit softer and has a jazzier style than my old band, and I wanted a stick with a narrower gague but still liked the focused sound of a rounded or barrel tip. I would like to think that I am a consistent player at the very least, but I tend to be a heavy hitter, so I went with the stronger Hickory option in the HD4 opposed to the SD4 . I have a weekly rehearsal, and play one or two shows a month. Sometimes, these sticks will last weeks without losing their bounce. Other times, though, they shatter within the first few minutes of playing. Because of this, I often keep several pairs handy. What frustrates me about buying drumsticks online is that I can't examine them before I purchase them, which means I get maybe 1 out of every 5 that either is too dry and cracks on a rimshot, or the packaging/storage has been done in a way that weathers or warps the wood. This last time I bought two pairs, and one of them had the cardboard sleeve -TAPED- to the sticks. I don't know about you, but I don't want some sticky tape residue getting all over my hands, or my thousands of dollars worth of cymbals. Don't buy these bad boys online and expect 100% quality, but if these are your sticks and you hate going to the local guitar center as much as I do, and no other music stores around you are stocking these, just make sure you buy at least two pairs. Trust me.

Good stick for Funk, Blues and Rock
As a drummer who requires good sticking on cymbals, the HD4 are a good stick. Medium to light weight and good shoulder give enough power on crashes and drums for regular band scenarios. I also love the SD4 Combo, which is the maple version of this stick, but it suffered from fatigue on anything that required more volume away from light trio work (Blues, funk, rock). This stick is the hickory version which gives a little more weight and better longevity. The tip is a small barrel shape which gives a pronounced ping on ride and hi hats without it being too thin (like a bead tip) or heavy clack (5A acorn). I give it 5 stars as it is fast becoming my regular stick, but like all sticks, try them out first to see if you like them. Build quality from Vic Firth is 5 stars all round. You always get a matched pair and never a warped stick
