Great book
Great introduction to Data Virtualization and how it fits into a Business Intelligence architecture. Uses screenshots and examples from a variety of dat virtualization vendors (I recall Composite, which is now owned by Cisco, Denodo, and Informatica, among others). But it is not just about the tools and features of these specific products. It lays out a clear case for the problems with existing architectures and ways that data virtualization can be applied to solve them. The text is very clearly written and reads quickly, and provides a good foundation for understanding and application of the concepts and techniques. I found this to be very useful in helping evaluate DV platforms and determine selection criteria, as well as to plan my target architecture for implementation this year.BTW, as the text itself notes, data virtualization includes and subsumed a number of other technologies and techniques, and is still growing and maturing. I expect that his book will be good for another year or so and sufficient for a couple more years but will age quickly, e.g. the fast movement in the big data arena and many new technologies coming available for Business Intellignce, data mining, and more.If you are getting started with or exploring DV this book is recommended reading.

An Excellent Service to the IT Industry
With his latest book, Data Virtualization for Business Intelligence Systems: Revolutionizing Data Integration for Data Warehouses, Rick van der Lans has done the IT industry an excellent service. I strongly recommend it.Rick covers data virtualization from multiple directions. From the highest level he provides a rationale for data virtualization, especially in historical terms relative to technology in general and data integration solutions in particular. Rick also provides a deep dive examination of how data virtualization works, including screen shots from popular products.Rick also projects the future of data virtualzation, including not only his prognostications, but also those of three data virtualization software company CTOs.This book complements Data Virtualization: Going Beyond Traditional Data Integration to Achieve Business Agility, which provides ten in-depth data virtualization case studies from a range of organizations.

Comprehensive and Relevant
I needed to understand how data virtualization related to the proven data warehousing methods in Business Intelligence—without a sales pitch. This book does that perfectly, exceeding my expectations. As the book concluded with words from executives of leading data virtualization vendors, I fully appreciated how thorough and vendor-neutral the author had been throughout the book. If the book's title speaks to you and your work, then you have found the right book.

Rick give a great vendor agnostic overview of Data Virtualization
I had the pleasure of hearing the author speak at the TDWI conference in Orlando Florida during December of 2015. Immediately after hearing him speak I bought his book. It's expensive considering it's size. And it's worth every penny! Rick give a great vendor agnostic overview of Data Virtualization!

Great book on DV
This book is a great point of reference for learning about data virtualization. It provides both a non-technical overview, but also gets down into the details of how it works. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand DV better.

Great Overview of Data Virtualization
I really enjoyed this book. It very clearly presents what Data Virtualization is and is not and explains how it can be used to enhance integration practices. It's much more convenient to have a single comprehensive book on Data Virtualization than links to lots of various articles that touch on small parts of Data Virtualization.Anytime someone wants to learn more about Data Virtualization and really understand it, I point them to this book.
