Severely Lacking Substance
Unfortunately, this book was problematic for me in quite a few ways. First and foremost, this is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. For this aspect, I think the author did a great job at bringing out the necessary characteristics for both the characters and I can certainly relate them to the beloved fairytale. Secondly, I love a student/teacher romances and haven't seen a new one to fit into the genre in ages. So the fact that the author brought this trope back to life thrilled me. Aside from these two things though, the story was severely lacking for me and I almost didn't finish it to begin with...First, it's lacking in substance. Readers are never able to really get to know the characters because all they do is have sex. I mean it. Literally, that's all they do. The author skims over important characteristics of both Erin and Blake that would allow us to get to know them but never truly brings them to life.Secondly, the ending made NO sense. I don't care enough about the characters to pay five dollars to see what happens either. I mean, how do you go from being blissfully in love to saying they cannot be together? Feels like a ploy to me and I have no interest in it.This book is clearly not my cup of tea but I hope readers will look at all the reviews before making the decision as to whether they will read this one or not.

Cliffhanger BS
So.. every other paragraph is sex. I can deal with that even though I found myself literally skimming through them. I love a well written hot sex scene, but dayum donāt detract from the story line by overdoing them.My main issue is the cliffhanger. Thumbs up for attempting to milk the reader for money. I typed in āstand aloneā and got this cliffhanging BS. I wonāt spend my money on books that authors split up just to make a buck. I get the need to earn a living, just be honest about the cliffhanger in the blurb about the novel. One star for the cliffhanger and lack of storyline.

Confused by the ending
I felt like everything was worked out at the end. Literally on the last 2-3 pages. Then all the sudden this is not going to work out? It should have ended with the notes and then gone into the second book. Just really confused with this back and forth stuff.

Cliffhanger
Can't stand cliffhangers. Will try to remember not to read this author in the future. I agree with another reader about the numerous sex scenes. Normally love them, but found myself skipping over a lot in this book.

Review: Modern Fairy Tale Duet 1: Beauty & the Professor
Beauty and the Professor by Skye Warren is the first book in her Modern Fairy Tale Duet. A sexy, steamy modern re-telling of Beauty and the Beast.Erin is a grad student on scholarship and loans and working her way through the expenses by cleaning in her free time. Her favorite job, by far, is her twice a week visit to the reclusive Blake Morris. A wounded vet and one-time professor, he was badly burned in his last tour and has made himself a recluse as a result. But when Erin sees Blake she sees the whole man, not just a man with scars.Blake has no need of having his house cleaned twice a week but the company that Erin provides is addictive. So if he has to pay her to be there, so be it. But when Erin witnesses something he wishes she hadn't he is wiling to let her go, but despite everything, it just pulls her in and they begin their affair with no idea what troubles lay ahead.Well-written and well-paced and filled with steamy, sexy encounters the story held it's own amidst the various smoking hot scenes between Erin & Blake. Loved it - will definitely be finishing this duet with book two, Falling for the Beast as soon as possible. Enjoy!

Finding their Way
This is right up there with my top reads so far this year. A forbidden romance, a younger woman and older man. It sounds cliche but the story is not. There was a depth to it that had you invested in both our leads. This man was complex; Professor who was looking to the future, a possibility in politics. The Military man who has one last tour overseas which changed his life in so many ways. Scarred not only on the outside but deep within. Rejected by his fiancĆ©e who I could not stand and heād secluded himself away from the world.Preferring to communicate via computers to work. But he realises he needs to do something waking up a mess and taking stock of where heās at. He posts an add for a cleaner and what he gets is the light that he needs to come back to life.Erin is a struggling college student, the part scholarship she is only covers so much. Student loans and working as a part time cleaner just about covers whatās left. Sheās smart, beautiful and deep. When she takes on the cleaner position for Blake she finds a man whoās broken both inside and out. But she also finds her other half. She sees the man behind the shadows and sheāll do everything she can to bring him back to life. Both have been hurt by life and people. Erinās was her social standing or lack of. Blakeās fiancĆ©e was a shallow bitch who left him whilst he was still in hospital.Living in a sensual bubble it all comes to a head. Blackmail, and jealousy nearly tears them apart. And when you think their past it Blake is the one who makes the decision for both of them.Be warned it ends on a cliffhanger! But thereās no wait the next book is out and Iām about to dive in.

So Dissapointed in Skye Warren!
I enjoy this author's books. In fact, I respect her writing so much that when given the opportunity to get the first one free (understanding that "Duet" means the story covers 2 books) I bought the second one at the same time. Again, out of respect for, and trust in, this author. I feel betrayed and I will not make this mistake again. The plot, (over 2 books) was so thin, it was seemingly created simply to connect sex scene after sex scene. The Skye Warren I read crafts a well developed story and weaves in meaningful, steamy sex appropriate to the entire fabric of the story. Not these. These books are in dire need of an editor who will blue line 80% of the sex as it is redundant, unnecessary and frankly boring; consolidate and enrich the plot and give us a solid Skye Warren-worthy standalone book.

A beautiful love story šš
To make ends meet and get her through her university studies ,Erin takes cleaning & waitressing jobs ,one of her cleaning jobs was at Dr Blake Morrisā house. Somewhat of a recluse and ex professor at Tanglewood University a job he held before his last tour of active duty , a tour which saw him sustaining horrific burns and facial disfigurement. When he was released from hospital his fiancĆ© dumped him as she couldnāt bare the scars that marred his body, now with very low self esteem he now spends his days holed up in his house . Then enter Erin a young girl who didnāt seem to let his looks affect her , she seemed to pull him out of his malaise ,and they both looked forward to their meetings . On one such cleaning visit things changed when she witnessed him In a delicate position shocked she couldnāt turn away and was even more shocked when he called her name as he climaxed . Realising that they both had the same strong feelings they started a sexual relationship, but as there are forces waiting in the wings to make problems for them will this couple who have strong feelings for one another be able to have a HEA ..... That I donāt know as it ends on a cliff hanger of sorts canāt wait to read the continuation in book two ššš.

Absolutely loved it
This is book one in A Modern Fairy Tale Duet. If your a fan of this author and even if your not a fan you donāt know what your missing as this was so good.Erin is a fabulous character. Sheās strong and will fight for what she wants. As well as working hard at college she cleans Mr. Morris house twice a week to help with her tuition.Blake Morris. Damn heās hot. Scarred both on the inside and the outside he knows what itās like to be at rock bottom. Once Erin entered his home and his life he knows he needs to sort himself out, he needs to fight for what he wants.Fabulous twist on Beauty and the Beast. I seriously canāt wait to read part two of this duet.

Wow š
I am a newcomer to the books of Skye Warren and I am so glad that I found her! This book is so full of emotion and intensity.Erin is a student in university studying for her masters. Education and existing is a costly thing so she cleans homes for the money that she needs. It is through her work that she meets Blake, a war hero brutally scared by an IED. He's quiet, respectful and intelligent. She enjoys spending time with him.But everything changes when she walks in on him touching himself and calling out her name.I know what you are thinking. If this book is so great, why only four stars? Well I'll tell you, this book ends on a cliffhanger and my frustration is real! However, now that I have explained my foibles, I can truly say that this is an incredible read. To use the old cliche, I just couldn't put it down. My heart broke for both Erin and Blake whose pass traumas are hindering their future. It's so agonising.Well I've decided I can't stop now, so I will be buying more in the series and praying for a HEA. Enjoy peeps š

Oh good grief
I'm wondering if this author ever really researched conflict ptsd, or just decided it was a useful crutch for her 'Beast'. Anyhow...Its a good premise, but then we actually get to the book and its... Well.... Disappointing.Sex every three pages I don't mind, but occasionally dropping the C bomb doesn't improve a lacklustre writing style. And the two protagonists are always doubting themselves and each other, despite repeatedly claiming they trust each other. This constant repetition is tiresome. And then the author seems to have suddenly recalled she's meant to have back story's to explain their mental health and anxiety issues, only its like someone bolting a massive spoiler on the back of a Mini and claiming its a Porsche, honest! And the the absolute coup de grace. The book ends in the most stupid, moronic way then you are expected to pay £3.49 for the last 149 pages.I don't think so.If this story idea had been in the hands of an author like a Elizabeth Hunter the characters would have full rounded back storys, multi layered personalities, and growth as individuals and a couple. All set against a cracking storyline. This is more a fanfic knocked out in an evening. Such a shame as it could have been hotter than vesuvius.

Good read
As a student Erin needed help to pay for her course and ended up as a cleaner for a reclusive ex serviceman. Blake had been burned on one side of his body and preferred not to have people looking at him. Erin saw passed his disfigurement and when she accidentally saw him naked it was a turning point. He knew he should resist her but she filled his dreams and he constantly wanted her. She pulled him out of himself so that when he was offered a place teaching he took it. Trouble was ahead though when his ex worked out the relationship between him and Erin.
