Perfect for metallic watercolor but avoid taping it down
This paper is stunning with metallic watercolors. It absorbs the paint more quickly than other papers I have used, so quick work is necessary to get an even wash. Its biggest drawback is its soft, rather fragile surface. If you tape the paper down to your work surface, expect to lose the edge where you taped. Unlike all white papers I have worked with, none of the tapes I used could be removed without obvious visible damage. Normally I like the sharp margins tape gives at the edges of my work. I haven’t tried it with any other media.EDIT: After using several sheets I’ve found an additional drawback. It is very difficult to separate the pages from the pad without tearing a jagged edge along the top of the sheet. The padding compound that holds the sheets to the pad is stronger than the paper. Also, not unusual for a black surface, it is easy to scratch the paper accidentally with just a fingernail. It’s fragile enough that I have dropped a star off my rating. Beautiful with metallic watercolor, but delicate to work with.

I would recommend.
I loved everything about this paper. It took paint well, and could handle wet on wet just fine. I really love the start black of the paper. Pastels, other oxides, metallics and shimmers all show up very well on it. I would recommend.

What a fun surface, a challenge to the brain
I have been having a blast doing portraits and things on this beautiful durable black watercolor paper. It is very interesting to paint on and gives a very dramatic etheric look. Probably would be best with gouache, acrylics or with the white (or lighter colored) water-soluble charcoal from Artgraf that I have been playing with. You will probably not want to be using transparent colors with this dark paper and probably you’ll want to use bright colors that can stand out from the black. This is archival and good quality paper made for salable art. But don’t let that stop you from having FUN!Really, what a great gift for the artist in need of a change of perspective!

Paper does not stand up the same as white watercolor paper.
Paper works for watercolor. But is very fragile. Normally watercolor artists tape their paper to a board to control warp and provide a stable movable surface for painting. The top layer of this paper tears off with the tape no matter what you do. In fact you have to be very careful to control that it only takes off the part under the tape. Otherwise it just takes off a bigger piece of the top layer. Even though the paper is thick it is soft and has a relatively spongy feel.

Great for Metallic Watercolor Calligraphy
This is great quality, sturdy and excellent for metallic watercolor calligraphy as well as brush markers or gel pens that write on black paper. This is cold press paper which I'm told is great for watercolor calligraphy. It is one I found highly recommended when I did research and I recommend as well!
