Highly recommend
The epson powerlite home cinema 500 is an excellent budget projector for watching movies. It's bright enough to watch during the day but it especially shines at night.Pros1. Bright enough to watch during the day.2. Slightly above DVD quality picture. (good enough for me)3. No Rainbow effect4. Easy setup (Just plug in and play)5. Good throw6. Bright scenes really look good, and the colors really pop7. Light and comes with a travel case8. Fast to turn on and offCons1. the picture has a slight screen door effect (doesn't bother me, but is noticeable if you look hard enough)2. no audio out (you will have to hook up your surround to your blu ray/dvd player. If you have a device that doesnt have an audio out, like a ps3, you need to buy a splitter)3. The picture is not high def, it is slightly above DVD quality (not good enough for videophiles)4. contrast is not spectacular (really dark scenes are not horrible, but they are not going to amaze)5. Fan is not incredibly loud, but is audible6. Remote control is highly functional but boring7. Lamp life is less than a DLP projector (4000 hours or less)Conclusion. This is an excellent budget projector to have an indoor/outdoor movie night with. It practically comes ready to use right out of the box (you will need to manually focus the lens/and keystone correct it), and is user friendly for a projector novices like myself. Highly recommend

This thing is awesome! I can play video games on it and ...
I have had this movie projector for a year now. I have had it on power saving mode. The lamp has 4,300 hours on it and I haven't needed to replace it yet. This thing is awesome! I can play video games on it and watch TV. (Currently hooked up to DVR)The Superbowl on this baby was wonderful especially when you have multiple people over! I have it hooked up via audio video cables and the quality is great! I haven't used the HDMI but I am 100% certain it is good quality for what I can tell anyways.I didn't have a pull down screen and places wanted over $100 for them. I went to Lowe's and bought the biggest window shade they had (6 ft.) for around $50 and it works great! You can also use a white wall or something equivalent. It comes with a remote the power cord and and a nice carrying case which is great quality. Couldn't find the case as I write this review. I apologize for the dust in the pictures I have had this baby for awhile.I highly recommend this product. This is my 2nd Epson movie projector and certainly not my last! Especially at this price!

Great projector for outdoor movies!
We bought this projector for a planned night for our extended family. So, we set it up, with an outside screen that we also purchased from Amazon, and 30 of our family members (kids and adults) showed up for an outdoor movie. My son, the creative wizard that he is, made an intermission "reel" (for lack of a better term) or DVD with vintage ads and placards that you would have seen at an actual drive in in the 50's or 60's. We started out with a Looney Tunes cartoon (Marvin The Martian and Bugs Bunny) and then my sons intermission disc and then the feature was Disney's Flight of the Navigator. We set up a tent for the popcorn stand and had snacks and drinks and popcorn for all.It was a beautiful thing. The projector worked great! Once we figured out how close or how far to get it, and what settings it needed to be on, it worked flawlessly. The picture was great and we all had a great time!

I like it ...
Ok, so I waited a long time to review this. Partially because I was being lazy, but mainly because I wanted to get some use out of it before posting a review. After 10+ months of steady use I can honestly say it was a good purchase. This isn't a high def projector that's going to "wow" you, except maybe by the sheer size of the screen you can have. I currently have it ceiling mounted in a bedroom projecting onto a 105 inch Carl's ProGray screen (4:3). I have Verizon FIOS service which gives me a free SD box with my subscription. Since this is basically an SD projector, it works well. I have it connected using an old fashion S-Video cable. I also have an AppleTV box hooked up in the HDMI port. The video from the AppleTV is set to 720p, but the projector scales it down to somewhere between SD and HD. It still looks good so I don't really care. I think the only real complaint I have is that it's really hard to see detail in dark scenes no matter what adjustments I make (don't try to watch The Walking Dead on it). From what I understand this is something projectors struggle with in general when not in a total theater dark environment. Also, like everyone else before me has said, the internal speaker sucks so I just don't use it (I have the audio going into a BOSE speaker system). The "screen door" effect people also complain about is only visible for me when I'm close to the screen (which isn't a problem since I don't sit that close when I'm watching it). Overall this was a good purchase and I am happy with it. Hope this helps!

So far I've loved it
This is my first experience with a projector. I decided to buy one instead of a TV and so far I've enjoyed this product very much... It looks amazing at day and night (obviously my living room is not extremely bright during the day). The fan sound is not annoying but it's definitely noticeable.I don't have a screen, so I project the image directly on a white wall and it is still pretty good.I've only tested the HDMI connection, but it has other options (USB type A & B, computer [VGA], Super video and RCA video & audio [white, red, yellow cables]), this should allow you to plug in your computer, digital camera, flash drive, USB storage device, video device and even a compatible document camera (EPSON DC-06) according to the user's guide.I'll recommend this product!
