Wish Lee understood sentence structure
Lee Child can weave an interesting tale about Jack Reacher but may drive readers who are familiar with proper sentence structure and use of punctuation to the brink. I know that’s the case for me. I purchased the entire Jack Reacher series of books after seeing the first season of the series. I never would have read so many of his books if I hadn’t already paid for them. I have often wondered why, with all the money that Lee Child must have brought in from his writing, he can’t seem to afford a staff who will proofread and correct the many mistakes throughout his books. Same goes for his publisher. I held onto hope with each successive book that he might learn something about writing and make his books easier to read. I hoped, with the addition of his brother on the last couple, that the books would improve but seemed to get only worse. Sometimes, 2 whole pages of back-and-forth banter are written with nothing to occasionally let you know who is speaking, so multiple readings may be needed at times to sort it out. I think almost all, if not all, of the pages have sentences with commas where none are needed, periods where commas are needed, clauses used as sentences, and a new paragraph starting from a clause that belongs in the previous sentence of the preceding paragraph. As I said, hard to read if you understand basic sentence structure. There are often times where I wish Lee had done one iota of research to get facts right. I refer to passages in the stories where it was apparent that Lee Child had no experience or knowledge; I guess, more or less, the writing is off the top of his head. Some problems are: 1: He thinks the flashing emergency lights of vehicles in the western states are the same as in much of the New England states (blue on fire trucks and red on police). 2: He didn’t know what the average shoe size in America is actually 10 ½ (stating it as 9) 3: He thinks a large man like Jack Reacher would have what Lee evidently thinks of as a large foot size of 11, instead of something closer to 14 or 15 (I am 6’1” and wear a 13.) I assume Lee has a small foot. 4: Lee has never been near a fast-moving train, thinking there is violent ground movement when the train is even over a mile away and hurricane force winds near one traveling 60 mph. 5: He seems to think that all gas stations and quick marts sell khaki pants and various shirts, packs of socks, and underwear. 6: Jack Reacher can knock anyone unconscious and very often dead with one punch. I can remember only a couple times when it took two. 7: He thinks face bones will “shatter” from a Jack Reacher punch and can knock out a gorilla or even an elephant. Jack also never has injuries to his hand or elbow from such amazing blows. 8: Jack Reacher’s hands are said to be as large as a dinner plate and his fists as large as Thanksgiving turkeys…really? Yes, his books are hard to read for these and other reasons caused by lack of oversight by his publisher and lack of staff. Please, I hope never to find out he has a staff that lets this stuff through. Good storyteller, other than the lack of research on details and no idea as to sentence/paragraph structure.. Rating would be five for the story.Won't buy future books

Excellent Read
In the earlier Jack Reacher novels there was more “sleuthing” and less roughing up the bad guys. Reacher was an outstanding investigator and that strength is well portrayed in this book. Loved re-reading it 15 years later.

Another Jack Reacher Thriller
Straying at times far from Reacher’s U. S. turf and featuring several sinister bad guys, Jack Reacher triumphs yet again.

Reached solves problems
The Rescher novels are usually, to me, interesting in the way Reacher figures out what has happened & how to solve problems. In this story he begins helping the bad guys before figuring out what is really happening. This story contains an unusual amount of brutal violence as Reacher solves the mystery.

This novel is worth a 10-Star rating!!!!
I've been a "Jack Reacher" fan since the beginning. Though there have been a few novels in the series that didn't quite measure up to the first one, The Killing Floor, most of them have come pretty close to being equal in style, cope, and pure entertainment fun. The Hard Way, however, surpasses the nine previous books and proves that Lee Child is definitely getting better and better with each fabulous novel. In this one, Jack Reacher is in the wrong place at the wrong time and inadvertently gets drawn into the kidnapping of Edward Lane's wife and stepdaughter. Lane (ex-Delta Force) is now the head of a small corporation in New York City that supplies mercenaries to foreign governments around the world. The men who work for Lane are ex-Army Special Forces, ex-Marine Recon, ex-Navy Seals, and ex-British SAS, but only Reacher has the necessary investigative skills to track down the kidnappers. Lane quickly enlist the services of Reacher, while at the same time warning him not to screw up, or else risk the consequences. It seems that several years earlier, Lane's first wife was kidnapped and then murdered due to a mistake by the FBI. Lane wants to make sure that doesn't happen again, and he's prepared to do whatever it takes to get his family back. The one major problem is that everything is not as it seems; and, before long, Jack Reacher won't know whom to trust. The only thing for sure of is that it's up to him to bring this woman and her child back to safety, even if he has to kill everyone who gets in his way. The men of Special Opts may think they're tough, but they haven't tangled with Reacher yet, and when they do, a lot of body bags are going to be needed.Lee Child has written his most complex novel to date. Not only must Reacher save the kidnapped woman and her eight-year-old child, he has to figure out what happened with Edward Lane's first wife and if there's a connection. He'll have to filter through the lies to find the truth, connecting the dots from a brutally murdered woman in New Jersey, to a man that suffered unbelievable atrocities while being held prisoner in Africa, and to a small farm in England where an eventual showdown will take place and a lot of people will die before the sun comes up. This is Lee Child at his very best, capturing the reader's attention in the first few pages and then holding it in a vise-like grip until the end. Few writers are able to deliver the goods like Lee Child's does, and The Hard Way delivers in full force, leaving the reader exhausted from the roller-coaster ride of excitement and edge-of-your-seat suspense. Taut with twist and turns that will keep you constantly guessing, this is the book to read to escape another boring weekend. The author now faces the difficult challenge of surpassing The Hard Way, which would even cause Jack Reacher to shake his head in surrender.

Some plot holes...
This one is a tad disappointing compared to other Reacher novels. There are holes in some of the plots - in one of the later chapters there's smoke rising from the chimney, yet a page later, they are lighting the fire...There are some pretty feeble arguments put forward too, but read it yourself and see if you can spot them.
